Trek for Trevor Launches Wilderness First Aid Program with the Mountaineers at Ohio State

** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE **

Fort Worth, TX – September 3, 2024 – Trek for Trevor, a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation dedicated to promoting safe hiking and exploration, is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Certification grant program in partnership with the Mountaineers at Ohio State. This program will provide selected members of the Mountaineers, a student club passionate about outdoor adventures, with grants to offset the costs of obtaining their WFA certification.

The Mountaineers at Ohio State, with nearly 200 active members, is committed to providing outdoor enthusiasts of all levels the opportunity to engage in safe and environmentally conscious outdoor activities. The club organizes nearly 40 outdoor trips annually, led by student leaders who must be equipped with the necessary skills to ensure the safety of their teams during expeditions. The WFA certification, a critical component of outdoor leadership, will be more accessible to these leaders thanks to the generous support of Trek for Trevor.

“Trek for Trevor is thrilled to support the Mountaineers at Ohio State by providing these grants,” said David Laher, President of Trek for Trevor. “Our mission is to promote safe exploration, and we believe that equipping these passionate student leaders with Wilderness First Aid certification is an essential step in ensuring the safety of all who participate in their outdoor adventures.”

Doug Laher, Executive Director of Trek for Trevor, echoed this sentiment, stating, “This partnership is a natural extension of our commitment to education and safety in the outdoors. We are honored to work with a group as dedicated and enthusiastic as the Mountaineers at Ohio State, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of this program on their outdoor community.”

Jack Knellinger, President of the Mountaineers at Ohio State, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “We are incredibly grateful to Trek for Trevor for their generous support of our club. This grant program will allow more of our student leaders to obtain their WFA certifications through more affordable and accessible means, ensuring that we can continue to lead safe and responsible outdoor trips throughout the year. It’s partnerships like these that enable us to uphold our mission of providing accessible and safe outdoor experiences for the Buckeye community.”

2024 marks the inaugural year of this grant program, which Trek for Trevor plans to expand in the future. The organization remains dedicated to its mission of promoting safe hiking and exploration through preparation, awareness, and education.
